ICYMI: Student Loan Debt Forgiveness Blocked by The Supreme Court!

ICYMI: On Friday, June 30th, the Supreme Court ruled (6-3) that President Biden overstepped presidential authority with his previous policy to forgive student loan debt. Hope is not completely lost. As reported in The New York Times, ““Today’s decision has closed one path,” Mr. Biden said, adding that he had directed his education secretary to examine a different law by which his administration could forgive debt. “Now we’re going to pursue another.”” Stay tuned, but also be knowledgeable about your options right now.

What You Can Do Now:

Federal Student Loan payments that were deferred, with no interest accruing, throughout the pandemic across two Administrations will resume again in October, as part of the recent debt ceiling compromise. Interest on these loans will begin accruing even sooner, in September.

Familiarize yourself, now, with your outstanding balances and your options, as there are still a few ways to have your loans either forgiven or payment amounts reduced.
