ICYMI: WA State Energy Credits are Available thru Mid-September: Are You Eligible for a $200 Break on Your Electric Bill?!

ICYMI, for us Washingtonians, there is a limited-time opportunity for some of us to get a little relief on our electric bills! Read below in order to see if you might be eligible for a one-time $200 credit! This credit is affecting as many as 20% of households!

Washington’s Climate Commitment Act, enacted in 2021, is one of the many state policies addressing climate change. As part of that act, the “Clean Energy Credits for Washing Families” grant has been introduced for low-to-moderate income households to save on utility bills. This credit offers a one-time, per house-hold, $200 credit to utility-user’s bills.  “This powerful program works alongside other critical climate policies to help Washington achieve its commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 95% by 2050.” Dept of Ecology, State of WA website

From now until mid-September of this year, utility account holders may qualify for the credit, based on income in Tax Year 2023 and household size. Account holders already enrolled in utility payment-assistance programs will automatically receive the credit. Interested on more info about these payment-assistance programs?

This move of financial justice by the state also presents a rare opportunity for our personal financial goals. When we create a Spending Plan (aka a “budget”) we break down our monthly expenses into our Fixed Costs or “NEEDS”, and our Variable Costs, or “WANTS”. Typically, our WANTS are the things we spend money on that are more likely to fluctuate month-to-month, and are usually within our control, while our NEEDS are more consistent. This is a rare opportunity to get some flexibility around our NEEDS—an expense that is usually much harder to control!

What could you do with an extra $200?
